Referrals are needed from either the primary care physician or Cardiologist to start this program. Feel free to contact the center for assistance with obtaining pre-certification or to get more information about insurance coverage.

Explanation of services

The Cardiac Health Center of New York Presbyterian Hospital provides a physician-directed cardiac rehabilitation program that combines individualized exercise with educational activities to promote good health. Located adjacent to the Weill Cornell Center, patients are provided with12 weeks of individually tailored and carefully supervised training, three days each week in addition to nutritional counseling, stress management, patient education and lifestyle adjustment.

All telemetry-monitored sessions are supervised by Medical Director Paul Kligfeld, M.D. or in his absence another physician with experience in exercise testing. Individual attention is provided at all times by both a specially trained nurse and an exercise physiologist. A dietician is on site for individual and group counseling. Insurance may cover all or part of the cost of cardiac rehabilitation services. The Cardiac Health Center is AACVPR certified (Certified by the American Association of Cardiovascular and Pulmonary Rehabilitation Specialists).

Patients may be eligible for this program if the have had:

  • Coronary artery Bypass surgery, coronary angioplasty or a coronary stent
  • A recent heart attack
  • Stable angina pectoris (chest pain)
  • Heart Failure associated with coronary disease
