Explanation of services:

The CCHC at Children's Hospital, NYC, serves primarily children and adolescents with primary lipid disorders (cholesterol problems). Patients are seen one day a week (usually Mondays) by Dr. Thomas Starc or Dr. Christine Williams (Director) accompanied by Marguerite Bollella, MS, RD, Nutrition Coordinator.

The Children's Healthy Heart Center at CCHC, White Plains, provides evaluation of children and adolescents with inherited or acquired lipid disorders, moderate to severe obesity, and borderline hypertension related to obesity. The center maintains a non-pharmacological approach in its treatment of these risk factors for heart disease. The therapies include dietary counseling to encourage the adoption of a diet low in saturated fat and cholesterol, adequate daily physical activity, healthy body weight and blood pressure maintenance, and prevention of tobacco use.

The Children's Healthy Heart Center is open two days a week, usually Thursdays and Fridays. Over a period of fifteen years, an extensive database has been built and maintained to serve as a valuable resource for clinical trials and research. The center also operates as the research base for several ongoing studies.
